October Reflections

The first nine weeks of school has come and gone. From the Laird Cemetery Clean-Up to fundraising for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, GLA has had a busy month! Additionally, we have recruited many new members who we look forward to interacting with in the coming months. Check out highlights from this month below:

October 5th: Crafty Shack @ Center Elementary

GLA members helped students as they painted a plate with a candy corn image on it.

Phoenix and Breanna help out some students!

October 8th: Laird Cemetery and Senior Center Clean-Up

New and old faces alike showed up for our annual fall clean-up. We removed weeds and trimmed bushes so the space will be ready for landscaping in the spring! After we headed to the Plum Community Senior Center to clear their sitting area.

October 22nd: Festival in the Park

GLA helped with the Lollipop Tree and Duck Pond games. The kids were excited to show off their Halloween costumes and enjoyed the games!

October 24: Blood Drive

The first blood drive of the year was successful, with each unit of blood saving three lives!

October 26th: Elementary Battle of the Books

GLA enjoyed helping at the Battle of the Books-special shoutout to Cara Gettings and Alyssa Slane for staying after to help with clean up!

PA Breat Cancer Coalition Each year GLA raises money for the PA Breat Cancer Coalition. This year we sold Candy Grams for $1 each during the week of October 16th-19th. The following week we ran the Pink-A-Teacher's-Hair-Competition. Students could make donations to the teachers they wanted to see go pink on Halloween. The top three teachers were: Mr. Lazzaro, Dr. Muchoney, and Mr. Thon. They were "pinked" by Victoria Turchick, Molly Moran, and Sadie Evanov. The total amount raised was $525!
