December Reflections
GLA was involved in many community events throughout the holiday season. To close off the month, we had a holiday party for all of our members. Check out the highlights from this month below:
December 1st: Pivik Family and Friends Night
For the first time, we had the opportunity to help with the Santa Workshop at Pivik. Students could visit the shop with their parents and purchase their gifts. When they were done, GLA was waiting to help them wrap their presents!
December 2nd: Lunch With Santa
At the Plum Senior Center, members assisted with serving food during the lunch with Santa. We served hotdogs, hamburgers, desserts, and refreshments. The kids were very excited to meet Santa!
December 3rd: Give Kids the World Gift Card Bingo
GLA always enjoys getting to assist at this event! At the Monroeville Convention Center, some served food at the concession stand and others sold bingo tickets at the door. We got to sit down and participate in the bingo games once they started. Mrs. Martello even won a basket from the raffle!
December 7th: Stuff-A-Bus
GLA was excited to take part in the third annual Stuff-A-Bus to collects items for Toys for Tots! We helped with crafts for the kids who came. Despite it being very cold, it was neat to see multiple clubs and teams come together to donate and support such a great cause. In the end, over 1,000 toys were collected! December 15th: Poinsettia Delivery
Deliving poinsettias to the residents at Ridgewood has become a tradition in GLA. We recieved many suprised expressions and smiles as we brought a poinsettia to each resident. They were very thankful!
December 19th: Blood Drive #2
The 2nd blood drive of the year was a success as we had many students willing to give for the holiday season. Those who donated received a cool band t-shirt that included the high school's name on the back!
December 20th: Holiday Party
All GLA members were invited to a holiday party after school this year. We had treats for everyone to enjoy and games to play! Some games included: Stack the Cups, Merry Fishmas, Unwrap Kisses, and Cookie in the Face. We finished with an intense game of Christmas trivia that had everyone excited!
As you can see, we were quite busy this month! 2017 was a year that brought new projects and opportunities to make an impact in the community. We look forward to what 2018 will bring!
